The Decade of Healthy Aging (2021-2030)

Even though individuals are living longer it does not mean that they are living with better health and having their needs met.

Understanding the implications of the current demographic shift, as well as the epidemiological transition, is crucial to societies to be prepared to serve an aged population. In the Region of the Americas, it is even more important as the aging of the population happens rapidly with many misconceptions.

In response, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2021-2030 the Decade of Healthy Aging. The Decade of Healthy Aging 2020-2030 is the main strategy to achieve and support actions to build a society for all ages. It is based on previous guidance from the WHO including the WHO Global strategy on aging and health, on the United Nations Madrid International Plan of Action on Aging and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030.
