The neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and other poverty-related infections, now known in the Americas as the neglected infectious diseases (NIDs), rank together with HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis as among the most common serious infections both globally and in the Americas. The NIDs have created a large burden on the lives of marginalized populations across the globe and in this Region.
