On June 6 at the World Congress of Cardiology in Mexico City, PAHO launched the publication "Economic Dimensions of Noncommunicable Diseases in Latin America and the Caribbean", the companion volume to the third edition of the Disease Control Priorities (DCP3) series by the World Bank. It was launched jointly with the DCP3 volume on Cardiovascular, Respiratory and related Disorders. The PAHO volume was presented by Mauricio Hernendez Avila, director general of Institute of Public Health of Mexico and one of the editors.
The volume documents the most up to date evidence on health and economic impact that noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) have in Latin America and in the Caribbean, describes optimal and current policy responses within health sector and across sectors and provide guidance and recommendations for policy design and resource allocation.
The book has been developed in collaboration with World Bank, University of Washington and Institute of Public Health of Mexico and has engaged 45 authors from the Americas that have prepared 12 papers organized in 5 chapters.
