Objective of the Department:

The Department of Family, Health Promotion and Life Course (FPL) of the Pan American Health Organization promotes, coordinates, and implements technical cooperation at the regional, sub regional and country levels, emphasizing the central role of the family and community to foster a culture of health promotion and protection in which health is a social value and a human right. FPL focuses on the development and implementation of programs for women and men’s health; sexual and reproductive health; maternal and neonatal health; the integrated health and development of children and adolescents; the health of aging populations; food and nutrition; comprehensive family immunization and leads innovative, inter-sectoral and strategic efforts to address the social determinants of health.

The mission of the Comprehensive Family Immunization Unit (FPL/IM) is to promote and coordinate technical cooperation and alliances to support, as part of the guarantee of healthcare as a right to all, the efforts from the Member States to achieve the sustainable and equitable reduction of morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD) through control and elimination strategies to improve the quality and life expectancy of towns in the Americas.


Under the direct supervision of the Unit Chief, Comprehensive Family Immunization (FPL/IM), the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, the following assigned duties:

a) Coordinate all communication and knowledge management related activities for the unit as well as the communications team in FPL;

b) Develop and implementation communication campaigns and activities for World Health Days, as well as for communication efforts related to the entity’s program of work and Plans of Action;

c) Coordinate and develop the implementation of communication campaigns and activities related to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically for COVID-19 vaccination;

d) Support development of evidence generation and data gathering studies to inform communication campaigns related to vaccine acceptance and demand;

e) Support country communication focal points, FPL and Immunization focal points for the development of communication products that most effectively convey the desired information and message to target audiences for key initiatives, including COVID-19 vaccination, in accordance with the priorities of the Department’s program of work and Plan of Action;

f) Provide support to the Department’s technical team for the development of strategies to capture the public’s attention and engagement about the campaigns or prioritized topics;

g) Collaborate with technical teams in adapting content in different forms appropriate for the dissemination platform (e.g. print, media lists, web, social media) consistent with the Organization’s brand and style;

h) Provide support for the review of communication project proposals to ensure that these are aligned with the Corporate Communications Strategy as well as the entity’s program of work and priorities;

i) Prepare periodic monitoring reports of campaigns and assessments of communications tools;

j) Collaborate and actively contribute to the dissemination of communication products through social media outlets and stakeholders’ listservs.

k) Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Professional requirements:

· Five years of combined national and international professional experience working in the area of information and knowledge management and/or communication projects.

· Technical expertise in emerging information and communication technologies for health information and knowledge management sharing and virtual collaboration.

· Technical expertise and proven skills in the design, planning and implementation of strategies and communication campaigns.

· Expertise in the development and conceptualization of multimedia contents.

· Proven ability to develop and implement public health and health management and communications programs.

· Excellent organizational and analytical skills combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work independently and to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

· Strong professional oral and writing skills, including the development of reports, oral presentations, and technical/persuasive documents for consideration at the highest levels of the Organization.

· Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and SharePoint. Other IT skills and knowledge of the other software programs as for example Drupal, Joomla, Photoshop or Final Cut, would be an asset.


Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French Portuguese would be an asset.

Compensation: Band B
