The document "Consensus statement and regional salt reduction targets for selected food groups for the Americas" is the first of such kind prepared  for one of WHO regions. It contains the consensus reached between all the constituencies of the Salt Smart Consortium (governments, civil society and private sector) on  regional targets and the roles  of each constituency in the steps that follow.

The document "Consensus statement and regional salt reduction targets for selected food groups for the Americas" is the first of such kind prepared for one of WHO regions. It contains the consensus reached between all the constituencies of the Salt Smart Consortium (governments, civil society and private sector) on regional targets and the roles of each constituency in the steps that follow.

The PAHO Technical Advisory Group proposed the targets and the process by which they are to be set and the proposal was discussed and agreed at 3rd meeting of the Salt smart Consortium in Brasilia (28-29 October 2014). Reaching the targets will be monitored by an independent third party.

The document provides the table of selected food groups with regional targets identified, intending that they be achieved by December 2016. The next step is dissemination of targets; PAHO will contact Governments, Civil society will be responsibility of NGO members of our group  as well as communication and dissemination to food industry by food companies members of consortium.
