Geneva, May 22, 2016 (PAHO / WHO) - Antigua and Barbuda was appointed as chair of Committee B, which discusses budget issues at the 70th World Health Assembly this week in Geneva, Switzerland. Antigua and Barbuda Health Minister Molwyn Joseph will chair the committee.
Jospeh has been Minister of Health and Environment since 2014. Previously, he served as Minister of Finance and Commerce, Minister of Tourism and of Environment in different governments in his country. He was also a legislator for several periods.
Committee B addresses issues related to finance, human resources in health, management and budget of WHO. Its resolutions on those topics are presented to the plenary sessions of the Assembly for final approval.
Other countries in the Americas appointed to occupy positions during this World Health Assembly include Panama and Paraguay, which serve on the Credentials Committee; Suriname, Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and the United States. Brazil will become one of the members of the Executive Board of WHO, and Canada will hold the vice-presidency of that body.
