The impact of the recent hurricanes on the islands of the Caribbean was the focus of a meeting between the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) health ministries caucus on Sunday, 24 September. The meeting, which was also attended by the Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Carissa F. Etienne, discussed the impact that these natural phenomena have on the health of the population and the health sector, as well as measures to confront them.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, met this Sunday, 24 September, with members of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America (COMISCA), where he was accompanied by the Director of the Pan American Health Organization Health, Carissa F. Etienne. Both emphasized the willingness of WHO and PAHO to work closely with the countries of the subregion.

The ministers of health of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) hosted the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and the Director of the Pan American Health Organization, Carissa F. Etienne, on Sunday, 24 September, and spoke briefly about the progress and challenges for health in this subregion and their joint work going forward.
