Washington, DC, September 26, 2017 (PAHO / WHO) - A series of photo exhibits on various health topics in the Americas region are being presented at the 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference of the Pan American Health Organization, which runs until Friday in Washington, DC.

The 5-year Achievement Exhibition illustrates the region's progress and health challenges from 2013-2017. It includes photographs showing the elimination of onchocerciasis in Chiapas, Mexico; efforts to end malaria in the Dominican Republic and in the region; an overview of Vaccination Week in the Americas;  healthy aging, tobacco control, and others.

An important photographic exhibition on the 40thanniversary of Expanded Program on Immunization shows 11 achievements of this PAHO initiative, which inspired a renewed global focus on vaccination. Photos show the elimination of various diseases, 26 years without polio in the Americas, the dedication of health workers, the importance of vaccination during various stages of life, and countries' commitment to maintain strong immunization programs.

Another exhibition on Carlos Chagas, Science for health promotion, promoted by Fiocruz and the Brazilian Ministry of Health, is also being presented this week at PAHO to show the global legacy of Carlos Chagas and Oswaldo Cruz.

Health in the Americas, the flagship publication of the Pan American Health Organization that presents the regional advances and challenges in health of the last five years, is being featured at the regional headquarters of the organization.
