On Wednesday, 15 May,  2019, PAHO will held the webinar  "Regional work on promoting alcohol related laws among legislators" to present PAHO  efforts to inform and coach legislators across the region on alcohol related policies, international public health commitments, national legislative experiences and legal best practices.This webinar is the fourth of the Alcohol and Health webinar series. In this ocassion, it will be only broadcasted in Spanish.

Overview

In this presentation, Dr. Ignacio Ibarra will describe PAHO efforts to inform and support legislators across the Region on alcohol related policies, international public health commitments, national legislative experiences and legal best practices.

As a part of the Office of the Legal Counsel at PAHO/WHO Dr. Ignacio Ibarra provides technical cooperation to draft effective laws and regulations that can be implemented, contributing to the development of tools and resources (databases) for the same purpose. He has been working with parliamentarians from all over the Region and with the subregional Parliaments, such as Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), Andean parliament (PARLANDINO), the MERCOSUR Parliament (PARLASUR), and other stakeholders, promoting model laws that could be more easily adapted and used by countries of the Region.

Dr Ignacio Ibarra is the Regional Legal Advisor on Health-Related Law at PAHO/WHO. He graduated from the School of Law at the National University of Mexico and has a wide experience in health law in his country and internationally.

Alcohol and Health Webinar Series

alcohol webinar series square 2The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Unit will be coordinating a series of webinars on Alcohol and Health throughout 2019. The webinar series is aimed at disseminating up-to-date and accurate information about alcohol epidemiology, harms, policies and research in the Region of the Americas and globally, which in turn can be used for advocacy, policy development and implementation.
