Malaria Regional ProgramMission: Provide support to Member States in advancing their efforts to prevent and control malaria.

Areas of Work

  • Implementing the WHO Initiative Roll Back Malaria/RBM.

    • Provide support to establishing national technical committees and national and regional workshops.
    • Provide technical and operational cooperation for developing, adapting, and utilizing guidelines and indicators for monitoring and evaluating RBM implementation in the Region, including local, subregional, and regional projects, with funding from different organizations.
  • Training and Capacity-Building
    • Promote the decentralization, stratification and focalization of national malaria prevention and control programs.
    • Conduct human-resource training and social mobilization / advocacy for occupational and other vulnerable groups affected by malaria, including workshops and technical and managerial training sessions, with funding from different organizations.
  • National and International Activities: Participate in national, subregional, regional, and international activities to follow up on progress made in the Roll Back Malaria Initiative in endemic countries, as well as strengthen health surveillance in non-endemic countries and implementation of novel strategies and technological development, including projects funded by different organizations. In this context, the countries making up the Amazon rain forest have established the Amazon Network for the Surveillance of Antimalarial Drug Resistance (in Spanish, the Red Amazónica de Vigilancia de la Resistencia de las Drogas Antimaláricas / RAVREDA), with the collaboration of the Amazon Malaria Initiative / AMI) of the United States Agency for International Development / USAID). | RAVREDA-AMI
