Breastfeeding support: close to mothers
This year's World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) theme, 'BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT: CLOSE TO MOTHERS' highlights the importance of breastfeeding support during pregnancy and the critical days or weeks after delivery. A source of this support in contemporary societies is peer counselors, who can be anyone from the community trained to support mothers in their decision to breastfeed. These counselors become the lifeline for mothers with breastfeeding questions and issues. Their continued day-to-day support for the breastfeeding mother can be crucial for sustained best breastfeeding practices.
