Washington, D.C., 3 July 2014 (PAHO/WHO) — A technical advisory group (TAG) of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is recommending continued surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases in the Americas to ensure early detection and rapid response to cases, to prevent outbreaks.

The PAHO/WHO TAG on Vaccine-Preventable Diseases made the recommendations this week after analyzing information on the implementation in the Americas of the global Polio Eradication and Endgame Strategic Plan (2013-2018), and on the status of documentation and verification of the elimination of measles, rubella, and congenital rubella syndrome in the region.
