The mission of the Blood Services area in the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is to cooperate technically with national blood programs in the Region of the Americas to ensure that they have sufficient quantities of safe blood to provide timely transfusions to all patients who need them, thus contributing to lower mortality and optimal patient care in Latin America and the Caribbean. Also, to provide timely transfusions to all patients who need them.
This section contains technical documents and a number of links that will enable visitors to access the basic tools necessary for ensuring the timely availability of sufficient quantities of safe blood for transfusions. It also includes promotional material that can be used to celebrate the World Blood Donor Day

Virtual Health Library
World Blood Donor Day was established by the World Health Assembly in 2004. Its purpose is to recognize individuals who voluntarily and altruistically donate blood, and to contribute to strengthening national programs for collecting, processing and distributing sufficient safe blood for all patients who require transfusions.
