On Wednesday, 10 April 2019, PAHO will held the webinar "Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD): Epidemiology and Diagnosis" that will provide an overview of what are fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, current diagnostic criteria, clinical signs, and on how to identify people who could be affected. It will also cover the prevalence of: the prevalence of: alcohol use among childbearing age and pregnant women globally; Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and FASD among general and special sub-populations such as children in care, correctional populations, special education populations, specialized clinical populations, and Aboriginal populations in comparison with the global prevalence of FASD in the general population, as well as predicted estimates for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The panelists are Dr. Svetlana (Lana) Popova, a Senior Scientist at the Institute for Mental Health Policy Research and Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) whose research focuses on substance abuse and disease burden, and evidence-based policy development, and Dr. Omar-Abdul Rahman, current Director of Genetic Medicine and Friedland Professor at the Munroe-Meyer Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center whose interests lie in the research and development new approaches to systematically capture phenotypic information relevant to clinical genetics and he has a particular focus on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).
