Each year, 1.2 million unintended pregnancies occur among adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean. To improve the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents and youth, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), in collaboration with the World Bank, UNICEF, UNFPA and the Inter-American Development Bank issued a call for projects that use technology to promote these issues.

The call was launched during the event "Digital Youth: Improving sexual and reproductive health of young people in the digital age", held on 8 and 9 October 2014 in San Salvador, El Salvador. At the conference, experts from various institutions exchanged information and shared best practices and lessons learned, as well as tools and instruments for promoting sexual and reproductive health through technology. Current evidence and a status report of eHealth in adolescents and young were also presented. Based on the evidence and shared experiences, experts developed recommendations that will inform public policy and the development of interventions and services in sexual and reproductive health.
