In Honduras, the current policy on teenage pregnancy is aimed at preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. However, it does not address the social determinants of health and there is no law or public policy for integral sexuality. That is why the National Autonomous University of Honduras (governing entity of the Higher Education System of Honduras and main center of training of health professionals in the country) created a project to develop an application for mobile devices called Reproductiva - "Your comprehensive sexual education app". The project was one of the winners of the call for proposals for the implementation of IS4H projects promoted by the Pan American Health Organization.

Mobile phone

Reproductiva is aimed at the young population of the country, which has access to the Internet, regardless of gender or sexual preference.

The intention of the creators of the project is to turn the Reproductiva app into the first to focus on sexual and reproductive health in Honduras. In addition to the app, a "Reproductiva" website is being created. The idea is to launch an advertising campaign, and disseminate the application in universities and colleges, social networks and mass media.

The intention of this application is to improve the National Policy on Reproductive Health, the National Strategy for the prevention of pregnancy in adolescents and the program of accelerated reduction of maternal and infant mortality (RAMNI). The project aims to be a positive factor in all the strategic axes of Maternal and Child Health in Honduras, including the care of patients who suffered sexual violence.

Reproductiva is aimed at the young population of the country, which has access to the Internet, regardless of gender or sexual preference. According to its creators, it is necessary to break the barriers of access to the available information on sexual and reproductive health. Information on pregnancy prevention is found on the internet, but not attention to people who have suffered sexual offenses or guidance when a sexually transmitted infection is suspected.

This app on comprehensive sexual education is adapted to the particular context of Honduras, giving answers adapted to the national reality. Reproductiva is aimed at young adolescents and adults in Honduras, without distinction of sex, gender, or preference. It seeks to provide information on sexuality through a cell phone in a preventive manner, as well as being able to respond to some incidents.
