PAHO COVID-19 Social Media Dashboard

The Department of Evidence and Intelligence for Health of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Center for Health Informatics at the Grainger School of Engineering at the University of Illinois continue to work on ways to capture the power of unstructured data collected from social media and other networks. That has proved invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main part of this work is the PAHO COVID-19 Social Media Panel, which offers visualization tools accessible to researchers and students of all experience levels. A discussion about the dashboard may be viewed here.

COVID-19 Information Systems and Digital Health: After-Action Review of the First 100 Days in Quarantine

In just a few months, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a disruptive impact on all sectors of society: on how we live, how we govern ourselves, how we mobilize, how we work, how we educate ourselves, and how nations manage and how we manage our health ourselves. As for the public health sector, many lessons have emerged to improve the response to future pandemics but also to improve the health system from the perspective of information systems for health and finally of digital health.

COVID-19 and the use of Telemedicine

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance and usefulness of telemedicine, to provide a way to put patients and health professionals in contact when a consultation in person is not possible.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has created a tool for assessing the maturity level of health institutions to implement telemedicine services, in collaboration with institutions and experts in telemedicine and the use of IT in public health from the Region of the Americas and Spain. The tool can be download from here.

COVID-19 guidance and the latest research in the Americas

Technical guidelines, scientific publications, and ongoing research protocols from the Americas and affected countries worldwide regarding the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic are available in a searchable database that can be found on the Pan American Health Organization's website.

Recommendations and guidance from the PAHO and the WHO are also included, making it a useful platform of trusted information for decision and policy-making authorities, researchers, health professionals, and individuals.

Windows of Knowledge: The Most Scientific Information You Will Find in a Single Place

The Virtual Health Library, established in 1998 as a model, strategy and operating platform for technical cooperation of the Pan American Health Organization for management of health information and knowledge, created a portal where all relevant scientific information about COVID-19 can be found.

Named "Windows of Knowledge", the portal was built by BIREME, part of PAHO's Department of Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health (EIH).

PAHO's Virtual Campus for Public Health Highlights Webinars Conducted By EIH

The Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH), the learning platform of the Pan American Health Organization, has made available to all those interested in the response to COVID-19 some of the webinars conducted by the Information Systems unit of the Department of Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health (EIH). Among those are "Certifying and coding COVID-19 as cause of death," and "The potential of Digital Health and Information Systems for Health in the fight against the pandemic."

The Virtual Campus is a decentralized network of people, institutions and organizations that share courses and open educational resources about topics related to public health that are relevant to the countries of the Region, through the use of information and communication technologies.
