The staff of the Kingston-based office of PAHO/WHO was hosted by the Government of The Cayman Islands this October when Dr. Bernadette Theodore-Gandi, PAHO/WHO Representative, presented her diplomatic credentials to Acting Governor, His Excellency Mr. Franz Manderson (right). Looking on is the Hon. Dwayne Seymour, JP, MLA, Minister of Health.
The PAHO mission team included: Dr. Valeska Stempliuk, Technical Advisor Health Surveillance, Disease Prevention and Control, Dr. Michelle Harris, Technical Advisor Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health, Mrs. Nasolo Thompson, National Consultant Family Health Promotion and Life Course and Dr. Audrey Morris, Sub-Regional Advisor Food and Nutrition.
A courtesy call was made to Minister Seymour, who also received a high-level briefing of the technical support being provided by PAHO to the UK territory.
The PAHO team reviewed the Biennial Work Plan (BWP), 2018-2019, with senior leadership in the Ministry of Health including Ms. Jennifer Ahearn, Chief Officer/Permanent Secretary, Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez, Chief Medical Officer, as well as programme managers in the Ministry of Health.
The PWR's visit also included a tour of The Cayman Islands Hospital, the Mosquito Research and Control Unit (MRCU) and the West Bay Health Centre.
