Montevideo, December 13, 2023. The Vice Minister of Health of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Eladio Pérez, and the special advisor to the country's Ministry of Health, Dr. Eddy Pérez Then, visited the Latin American Center for Perinatalogy - Women's and Reproductive Health (CLP/WR) and held a meeting with the center's director and advisors.

The ministry authorities expressed their satisfaction at visiting CLAP/SMR. "It is exciting to know a center that has been a reference for our country and for the region and that has inspired so many professionals," said the ministry advisor.

During the meeting, the advisors on sexual and reproductive health, maternal health and perinatal health commented on the main lines of action promoted by the center and, in particular, the actions being developed in the Dominican Republic: capacity building in the management of obstetric emergencies; promotion of the strategy of Immediate Post Obstetric Event Contraception; capacity building related to newborn care and, in particular, in the prevention and management of neonatal infections.

In addition, the director of CLP/WR, Dr. Suzanne Serruya, emphasized the importance of the country deepening the use of SIP Plus to obtain quality data for monitoring and decision making.

Vice Minister Pérez referred to the challenges faced by the Dominican Republic and shared by other countries in the region in terms of accessibility to services and inequalities, as well as the need to work in coordination between countries with the cooperation of PAHO.

Dr. Serruya stated that it is very important to have this type of approach with ministerial authorities. "We work very well with the Dominican Republic, but it is always good to have this type of meeting with those responsible for the development of public policies in the countries. We know that political will is crucial to advance in transformations that have a positive and definitive impact on people's health and lives."

In this sense, both the vice minister and the director of CLP/WR agreed on the relevance of continuing to strengthen ties. "The dialogue is established and we know that we will continue to strengthen it," concluded the director.
