Networking and learning with the Member States to accelerate the adoption of Digital Solutions in Public Health

In continuity with the Plan of Action for Strengthening Information Systems for Health (IS4H) 2019-2023, established at the 71st session of the Regional Committee of WHO for the Americas of the 57th Directing Council, the Department of Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health (EIH) of the assistant director's office, through the Pan American Health Organization, is promoting this conference in the month of February 2021.

Aimed at the personnel of the Ministries of Health and other relevant government institutions for the health sector, as well as PAHO focal points in the countries, collaborating centers and partners for development, this event aims to create a dialogue of reflection with the countries of the region of the Americas on the experience they have had regarding their health information systems during the COVID-19 pandemic. The current situation derived from the COVID-19 pandemic has put all countries and their health information systems to the test. They have been forced to respond to the challenges of public health with the tools and technological infrastructure that each one has, which has confirmed the need to continue working on strengthening the health information systems that guarantee the capacity of the health sector to respond to health challenges and reduce digital gaps.

While not open to the general public, the virtual conference—which starts on February 9, 2021—will benefit the whole hemisphere by helping to:

  • Identify the main needs and opportunities for improvement of the countries' health information systems
  • Facilitate the incorporation of development partners interested in the main needs exposed
  • Highlight the importance of digital health implementation
  • Reaffirm PAHO support regarding the strengthening of the countries' health information systems, as well as the adoption of digital health tools
