Executive Summary
The radio soap opera “La Influenza” consists of twenty, one minute, episodes to be broadcasted like radio spots through community radios.
Each soap opera episode aims to disseminate prevention messages relevant to Influenza, as well as on its health effects. To accomplish this, the episodes are structured with five parts:
An opening- giving context
The story
Health message
Narrator’s message, reinforcement and hook
Closing
Objectives:
Promote the following practices:
Hand washing
Coughing and sneezing etiquette
Voluntary isolation and social distancing
Whole society approach
The pilot testing of the soap opera took place in six countries of the Americas (Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay) on November 2010 with the collaboration of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC), Latin America and the Caribbean. The report describes in detail the qualitative and quantitative methods used as well as the conclusions and suggestions to improve the soap opera.
