Heavy Rains in Guatemala

Torrential rains during the night of August 24 at the Department of Santa Rosa, Guatemala, caused overflowing of the San Juan River and affected the area of Cuilapa and the colony El Avispero of Nueva Santa Rosa.

According to the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) 5 people have died, 4 are missing, 6,237 people affected and 104 people have been evacuated. The authorities of the country are already carrying out the Damage and Needs Assessment in the affected areas and responding to emergency.

PAHO/WHO is monitoring the situation in communication with the Ministry of Health of Guatemala.
