Projects in Central America

Several countries in Central America are working to keep their hospitals safe from disasters. By strengthening disaster preparedness and reducing vulnerability of health facilities, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua hope to build stronger and safer communities.

A wide variety of activities contribute to making hospitals safe, and these countries are:

  • Strengthening the capacity of health personnel to evaluate hospitals and create emergency plans
  • Creating plans of action and pilot interventions for ways to improve hospital safety
  • Designing a regional strategy to be approved by experts from Central America, South America and the Caribbean
  • Raising awareness via celebrations, forums and educational materials
