More than 14,000 professionals have enrolled in the Essential Public Health Functions course since its launch

Washington D.C., 25 February 2024 (PAHO)– More than 14,000 professionals have enrolled in the virtual course Introduction to the renewed Essential Public Health Functions (EPHF): Fundamentals, conceptual framework and evaluation methodology offered by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) since its inception in 2022. Its Portuguese version, launched in late 2023, has garnered over 370 participants in Brazil, with 150 already certified.

This educational proposal is self-paced and accessible through the Virtual Campus for Public Health. The course, which is free and open access, requires an estimated completion time of 10 hours for all modules and the final evaluation.  It is available in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
The purpose of course is to introduce the new conceptual framework of the EPHF, providing its key evaluation methodologies, and strengthening the stewardship of health authorities. Its objective is to motivate participants to recognize their personal contribution and become an agent for change in advancing towards Universal health.

Most participants come from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru.
Access to these essential competencies in public health allows participants to become key actors and agents of change to advance towards universal health.
