Gabon reports first polio case in 10 years

Gabon has reported its first case of polio in more than ten years, a WPV1 with date of onset 15 January 2011. This serves as a reminder that even polio-free countries are not safe from the virus until the disease is completely eradicated. Genetic sequencing is under way to determine the origin of the virus.
