|Executive Committee of PAHO/WHO concludes its deliberations in Washington, D.C.|
On June 24, the Executive Committee concluded the work of its 148th Session, held at the Headquarters of the Pan American Health Organization, Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO).
The Committee discussed a wide variety of issues related to administrative, programming, and technical matters, for the purpose of strengthening aspects of the Organization’s management, administration, and technical cooperation with its Member States. The initiatives will be approved in September by all the Ministers of Health of the Hemisphere during the annual meeting of the PAHO/WHO Directing Council.
The Director of PAHO/WHO, Dr. Mirta Roses, noted that the Organization will continue to work diligently to meet the targets set in the Strategic Plan and will always do so with a commitment to effectiveness, efficiency, and transparency.
Dr. Roses thanked the delegations and praised their excellent work during the week. She also acknowledged the efforts of the Committee’s officers, consisting of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines as President, Argentina as Vice President, and the United States as the Rapporteur.
In turn, the delegations, who participated actively in the deliberations, thanked the Organization and praised its efforts, acknowledging its technical and managerial commitment to the Member States and to compliance with the standards of the Bureau.

The Executive Committee is composed of nine Member States elected by the Pan American Sanitary Conference or the Directing Council to serve for overlapping periods of three years. The Committee, which meets twice a year, serves as the working party of the Pan American Sanitary Conference or Directing Council. The Director of the Bureau, either on his/her own or at the request of at least three Member States, can convene special meetings of the Committee,. The Committee has an auxiliary advisory body, which is the Subcommittee on Program, Budget and Administration.
