Argentina Provides Rehabilitative Care to Haitian Earthquake Victims

On 8 February 2010, Argentina dispatched two teams of kinesiologists and physiatrists to the island of Hispaniola to offer early rehabilitation care to Haitians who lost limbs and suffered trauma following the 12 January earthquake. The trip was made possible through an agreement between PAHO and Argentina’s White Helmets Commission. The six Argentine professionals are volunteering their time and services and will be posted in Jimaní, Dominican Republic, and at the Bon Samaritain Hospital in Fond Parisien, Haiti, for a week. During their stay, they will also provide training to local health teams to enable them to provide ongoing rehabilitative care to patients. The team members belong to the Buenos Aires-based Institute of Psychophysical Rehabilitation, and their work will be coordinated by its Director, Dr. Ricardo Viotti.

El Salvador Proposes Orthesis-Prosthesis Laboratory Project to Aid Earthquake Victims
