Every year Jamaica joins the rest of the world in celebrating World Blood Donor Day. June 14th, 2013 is an extra special date for the country as it will host the event for the Americas.
14 June 2012 World Blood Donor Day was marked with events around the world to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank all voluntary unpaid donors for their life-saving gift of blood. The theme of the 2012 World Blood Donor Day campaign was "Every blood donor is a hero".
This June 14th, 2011, the annual global ceremony to commemorate World Blood Donor Day will be held in Argentina. The host country is seeking to recruit ONE MILLION VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONORS and launched the new global campaign with the slogan MORE BLOOD DONORS, MORE HEALTHY LIVES. World Blood Donor Day was established by the World Health Assembly to recognize those individuals who donate blood voluntarily and altruistically.
