Au moins 8240 tests rapides du VIH-1/2 falsifiés ont été distribués en Guyane – cette information est parvenue à l’OMS au travers son système mondial de surveillance et de suivi des produits médicaux de qualité inférieure et falsifiés. Ces versions falsifiées des test rapides étaient disponibles au niveau des utilisateurs finaux. Le produit falsifié imite le test rapide Uni-Gold ™ HIV et prétend être fabriqué par Trinity Biotech plc. D’autres notifications reçues ensuite indiquent que le même produit falsifié circule également au Kenya.

This report comes more than three years after Latin America and Caribbean countries committed to the target of universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support, as set forth by the United Nations General Assembly High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS in 2006.

Juan is HIV-positive. He is also the head of a nongovernmental organization that works to improve the quality of life and promote the empowerment of others like him living with HIV/AIDS, their family members, and other loved ones. Specifically, his group strives to protect and defend the human rights of all persons whose lives have been touched by HIV/AIDS, and it provides legal expertise and guidance to those who feel their civil, political, economic, social or cultural rights and fundamental freedoms have been denied or violated.

Through its Global Surveillance and Monitoring System (GSMS) for substandard/falsified medical products, WHO was informed that at least 8,240 falsified rapid diagnostic tests to detect HIV-1/2 have been distributed in Guyana at end-user level. The product is Uni-Gold™ HIV and claims to be manufactured by Trinity Biotech plc. Subsequent reports revealed that the same falsified product is also circulating in Kenya.

 The objective of this document is to provide technical recommendations on effective interventions for the prevention and treatment of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among sex workers and their clients. These include evidence-based recommendations following the GRADE methodology as well as recommendations for good practice.
