Research Interest Group

PAHO Research Interest Group is an ongoing informal and collegial discussion space fostering the exchange of information about research needs and interests. The brown bag lunch meetings are held in PAHO headquarters and are open to PAHO staff and guests.

Evidence-based Health Care Workshop

The Colorado School of Public Health of the University of Colorado hosts every year the Rocky Mountain Workshop on How to Practice Evidence-Based Health Care (EBHC Workshop). The event is a unique opportunity to interact with internationally recognized experts involved in using evidence in health-related policy-making and practice. Participants enjoy a 3:1 participant-to-tutor ratio, allowing for personal attention and relevant discussions in the plenary and small group meetings. EPPE

Effective Project Planning and Evaluation in Biomedical Research (EPPE) is a skills-building course that aims to strengthen program management capacity in health research. Participants learn to implement and monitor projects and accurately report and evaluate success. This leads to realistic and structured proposals, including clear research outputs that will increase their competitiveness for funding. Developed by Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) - WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, World Bank, the workshop is offered in the Americas to various research institutions in collaboration with PAHO and CIDEIM (International Center for Training and Medical Research) in Colombia. Erasmus Summer Programme

The Erasmus University Medical Center offers the Erasmus Summer Programme every year to provide international students, researchers, executives, academic professionals and advisors in the health sciences with an invaluable opportunity to engage in a career-advancing event.  The three-week program is specially designed to satisfy the needs of students and health professionals with a specific interest – such as clinical medicine, general practice, public health, epidemiology, genetics and biostatistics.

Workshop on Developing a Systematic Review

Every July, the Cochrane Eye and Vision Group and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, MD offer a workshop to guide Cochrane review authors through the steps of developing a systematic review. The workshop includes practice using the Cochrane Collaboration’s Review Manager (RevMan) software.
