Argentina

On 17 January 2024, the Civil Protection of Jujuy, provided information on the heavy rains in the province of Jujuy, Argentina. A strong storm affected different areas of the province, causing flooding, falling trees, and power outages in several neighborhoods. The heavy rains caused damage to temporary accommodations in Caimancito, where 5 families were evacuated. In the town of Palpalá, 10 people were evacuated due to the overflow of the Las Martas stream and in the municipality of El Carmen some houses were flooded, as well as water entering the Nuestra Señora de El Carmen Hospital, where firefighters and the local civil defense worked to drain it. Brazil (Update)

On 16 January 2024, the Brazil Agency of Communication (EBC per its acronym in Portuguese), provided updated information on the heavy rains registered in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. According to the information, more than 9,300 people were displaced (8,700 increase since the 15 January report) and 15,000 people were affected in the municipalities of Belford Roxo, Japeri, Mesquita, Nilópolis, Nova Iguaçu, Queimados, São Gonçalo, and São João De Meriti. In addition, the civil protection of Rio Grande do Sul state published information regarding the heavy rains occurred on 16 January. There were 4,840 people affected, 12 people injured, and 48 people displaced. To date, 39 municipalities reported damages. In the municipality of São Vicente do Sul, a hospital was affected.
