On 18 January 2024, the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, published information regarding the heavy rains that occurred on 16 January. Overall, a total of 14,000 people have been affected (9,160 increase since the 17 January report), 1 death reported, and 153 people displaced (105 increase). According to the information, 56 municipalities were affected (17 increase). In addition, as per the Brazil Agency of Communication (EBC per its acronym in Portuguese) update regarding the heavy rains registered in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; more than 12,300 people were displaced (3,000 increase since the 16 January report) and 48,000 people were affected (33,000 increase) in the municipalities of Belford Roxo, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Japeri, São João de Meriti, São Gonçalo, Mesquita, Nilópolis, Nova Iguaçu, and Queimados.
