Guatemala (Update)

On 3 October 2023, the Guatemala National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED per its acronym in Spanish) published an update on the rainy season in the country. There have been 885 severe rain incidents reported nationally (47 increase since the 29 September report). At least 2,307,387 people were affected (101,339 increase), 34,541 people were attended to (1,634 increase), 11,650 people were evacuated (1,115 increase), 10,218 people are considered at risk (350 increase), 44 deaths were reported (5 increase), and 10 people are missing (1 increase). In addition, 275 homes were severely damaged (19 increase). The CONRED reported 16 rain incidents affecting 2,000 people in the preceding 24 hours. On 2 October 2023, media reported on heavy rains causing flooding in the Potrerillos municipality, Cortés department of Honduras. There were 100 people evacuated and 300 homes affected. The media is reporting crops in the region have been devastated by the water, representing a significant loss for local farmers.
