On 4 August, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reported an update of the Dixie wildfire that is occurring in the Sierra Nevada region of Northern California. The fire is currently 35% contained, has burned 254,466 acres of land, and has forced the evacuation of 22,010 residents of the affected communities. There are currently 12,062 homes that are being threatened, 5 have been damaged and 45 have been destroyed. On 5 August, media reported that the town of Greenville with a population of 1,000 people was mandated to evacuate the surrounding area. Much of Greenville’s downtown area has been destroyed by the fire. About 100 miles south of the Dixie Fire, the River Fire has expanded rapidly to 1,400 acres after starting early on 4 August. The fire is currently still uncontained and has required the evacuation of 2,400 people in Placer County along with 4,200 people in Nevada County, California.
