On 5 February 2024, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided information on the heavy rains in the state of California, the United States of America. According to the information, 3,160 mandatory evacuations are in effect for the counties of Monterrey (n=1,590), Santa Barbara (n=1,250), Ventura (n=180), and Los Angeles (n=140). To date, 5 shelters were opened housing 77 people, and 17 schools were damaged. Additionally, 3 deaths (unknown cause) were reported. A total of 531,000 customers are without power in the counties of Santa Clara (n=72,000), San Mateo (n=56,000), and Sacramento (n=47,000). Wildfire

Chile (Update)

On 5 February 2024, the Chile Ministry of the Interior and Civil Protection (SENAPRED per its acronym in Spanish) published updated information on the wildfire Chile. According to the information, 83 homes were destroyed in the regions of O’Higgins (n=73), Maule (n=3), La Araucanía (n=7), and 4 were affected. SENAPRED informed that between 3,100 – 6,100 homes affected are being evaluated in the region of Valparaíso. There were 90 people affected in the regions of O’Higgins (n=73), Maule (n=9), La Araucanía (n=8) and 112 died in the region of Valparaíso. Additionally, 73 people are sheltered in O’Higgins (n=8) and La Araucanía (n=65). The Ministry of Health has declared health alert due to the wildfires in the provinces of Valparaíso and Marga-Marga.
