Over 50 Health Personnel Participate in a Breastfeeding Sensitization Session held in Belize

Breastfeeding Sensitization Session

Belize City, Belize, September 1, 2022 (PAHO) - On August 31, 2022, over 50 nurses, doctors, community health workers, health educators, and nutritionists from all the health regions of Belize gathered to learn and engage in a Breastfeeding Sensitization Training Session. In collaboration with PAHO/WHO Belize, INCAP, UNICEF, and the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the participants were able to understand the importance of breastfeeding, learn about the baby-friendly hospital initiative, and the international code of marketing breastmilk substitutes.

Through this session, the participants will be able to empower mothers by recognizing effective positioning, attachment and suckling as well as develop in-depth knowledge of the physiology of lactation.

By learning, sharing experiences, and engaging together, it is with hope that Belize will be able to increase the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months countrywide.
