The Pan American Health Organization will honor Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind "Plaza Sésamo", as a "Champion of Health," for collaborating in a partnership encouraging parents and their children throughout the Americas to participate in Vaccination Week in the Americas.

WHAT: The Pan American Health Organization, Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), awards Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization for "Plaza Sésamo", as "2009 Champion of Health Award" for collaborating in a partnership encouraging parents and their children throughout the Americas to participate in Vaccination Week in the Americas.

WHEN: The award ceremony will take place during the Awards for Excellence in Inter-American Public Health Dinner, organized by the Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF), on Tuesday, 29 September at 7 p.m

WHERE: The Organization of Americas States, Hall of the Americas, 17th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC

WHY: The distinction "Champion of Health" is awarded by PAHO to exceptional organizations using their influence and prestige to help raise public awareness about PAHO's work and its health programs in 48 territories and countries in the Americas and worldwide.

The Pan American Health Organization, founded in 1902, works with all the countries of the Americas to improve the health and quality of life of their peoples. It serves as the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO).
