PAHO Director briefs OAS ambassadors on Ebola preparedness in the Americas

PAHO Director Carissa F. Etienne briefed ambassadors to the Organization of American States (OAS) on efforts to prepare for the potential arrival of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Latin America or the Caribbean.

Washington, DC, 30 October 2014 (PAHO/WHO)-- PAHO Director Carissa F. Etienne briefed ambassadors to the Organization of American States (OAS) on efforts to prepare for the potential arrival of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Latin America or the Caribbean.

"The risk of a case being introduced in the region is not high but it is real," said Etienne adding, "We need to ensure that we can prevent and contain local transmission after the introduction of a first case."
