The last two years, 2020 and 2021, were characterized by very active hurricane seasons, registering a total of 51 named storms, 21 of which became hurricanes and 11, in turn, became major hurricanes. Of these, 4 occurred during 2021.


The COVID-19 pandemic posed a challenge for health systems that had to take regulatory decisions to ensure timely access to medicines and other health technologies, including vaccines, blood and derivatives, medical devices, reagents and in vitro diagnostics that are quality, safe and effective to the population.

WHO is hosting the first global gathering of leaders focusing exclusively on health in the SIDS The SIDS Summit for Health will bring together SIDS heads of states, ministers of health and others to discuss the urgent health challenges and needs they face.
