Outgoing PAHO/WHO Representative Dr. Karen Lewis-Bell was presented with a certificate of appreciation by the Minister of Health Suriname Dr. Amar Ramadhin

Suriname, January 27, 2023 (PAHO) – The Minister of Health in Suriname, Dr Amar Ramadhin, met with outgoing PAHO/WHO Representative Suriname Dr. Karen Lewis-Bell to discuss the technical cooperation agenda for 2023 and the cooperation provided by PAHO over the last three years.

The Minister and the PWR discussed the overall health situation in Suriname, including health concerns in such as the Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs), the need to address the risk factors of NCDs, universal health coverage, and the health reform plan among others. 

The Minister of Health thanked Dr. Lewis-Bell for her service and unwavering support to him, the Director of Health and other officers and programs in the Ministry and the support provided to the people of Suriname. He also presented Dr. Lewis-Bell with a certification of appreciation on behalf of the Ministry of Health for her service in Suriname. 

For the past 3 years, from January 2020 to now, Dr. Lewis-Bell has demonstrated her experience and leadership in public health during her tenure in Suriname. Especially, during the pandemic her skills in health communication, health promotion and Immunization were displayed working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health. Dr. Karen Lewis-Bell has been relocated as the new PAHO/WHO Representative in Belize, effective 8 February 2023.
