Director of PAHO launches regional celebration of World Blood Donor Day in Jamaica

Washington, D.C.,  13 June 2020 (PAHO/WHO) - The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Carissa F. Etienne, will make her first official visit to Jamaica on June 13-14 to attend the regional celebration of the World Blood Donor Day that this year is being held in Kingston, Jamaica. 

The PAHO Director will assist the World Blood Donor Day ceremony that will be held in Park Emancipation, with the presence of the Minister of Health, Fenton Ferguson, among other authorities.  During the event, champions of blood donation will be recognized, as well as the winners of a poster contest.

Etienne will also have meetings with Arnaldo Brown, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; the General Governor, Sir Patrick Allen; and the Minister of Health, Fenton Ferguson. She  will also visit University of the West Indies vice chancellor, Nigel Harris. Later the same day, she will give a lecture on universal health coverage at New Medical Science Auditorium at the university.
