PAHO/WHO Bahamas launches Walk the Talk Health Challenge to encourage physical activity and beat NCDs.

The PAHO Bahamas’ Country Office coordinated its first Walk the Talk: Health Challenge for All event in conjunction with the World Health Organization observation of its 71st anniversary in Geneva. The fun run/walk-a-thon was a free and non-competitive event with routes for walkers and runners to encourage the participation of people of all ages and abilities. Participants hailed from various Government Ministries, the Organization of the American States, Religion Organizations and other civil society partners to get involved in physical activity to promote a healthy future for all.

The morning commenced with a warm up session on the beach before walkers and runners set off on their routes. Upon their return, participants received medals and bags of fruits. Although the weather did not permit for the scheduled ‘socaerobics’ and yoga cool down sessions, the event successfully engaged more than sixty persons in physical activity and encouraged them to “walk the talk.”
