Montevideo. October 3, 2022. From September 26 to 30, the course "Estimation of safe abortion supplies needs" was jointly organized by the Latin American Center for Perinatology - Women's and Reproductive Health (CLAP/WR) and the Latin American and Caribbean Forum for the Assurance of Reproductive Health Supplies (ForoLAC).

The course was aimed at representatives of the sentinel centers of the CLAP MUSA Network and those responsible for purchasing from the centers in the region.

The objective of this action was to train staff responsible for procurement and those responsible in the ministries of health in the use of tools to provide better forecasting and ensure the availability of supplies for safe abortion as well as for post-abortion contraception. In particular, the course worked with data provided by SIP A, although alternatives for calculating from other sources were also presented.

During the course, participants were introduced to and trained in the use of a calculation tool that was made available to all participants, which allows for making supply forecasts through different methodologies, with the objective of always having stock available to meet women's needs.

The training consisted of hours of synchronous virtual work, led by the teacher Carlos Salegui, and hours of asynchronous practical work to solve the exercises.

Participants included representatives from Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Peru and El Salvador.
