How to participate

Background

People with Mental Health conditions can be subjected to harmful treatment practices, violence, neglect, and abuse. Additionally, they often face stigma, discrimination, and inequalities that impact all aspects of their lives. As a result, people with mental health conditions report that services are not responsive to their needs, do not support them in living the life they want in their community, and leave them in a position of hopeless and disempowerment.

With the aim of improving the quality of care provided by Mental Health and social services, promoting and protecting the Human Rights of individuals with Mental Health conditions, PAHO/WHO offers an approach based on Human Rights and recovery-oriented, seeking to improve people’s quality of life.

About the webinar

The aim of this webinar is to present and promote the Human Rights-Based Approach in Mental Health of the WHO Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2030, aligned with the five strategic action lines of PAHO’s Policy for Improving Mental Health, with special focus on the first action line "Foster leadership, governance, and multisectoral partnerships, and integrate mental health into all policies" and the fourth line "Strengthen the integration of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in emergency contexts”.

The session will include the presentation of the PAHO's self-learning course available at CVSP “Protection and promotion of Human Rights in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support”, which aims to provide the tools and principles to promote a quality and rights-based approach to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) response in humanitarian emergencies and disasters.

The participants also will have the opportunity to learn more about the resources and tools available for the protection and promotion of Human Rights and Mental Health.
