The Disease Elimination Initiative, led by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), seeks to eliminate more than 30 communicable diseases and related conditions in the Region of the Americas. As part of this effort, PAHO has developed Best Buys, evidence-based technical briefs that summarize, in a single page, the most cost-effective and high-impact interventions recommended for each disease or condition.
Each Best Buy outlines the impact goal, elimination target, programmatic targets, and a set of key interventions to guide action. These tools are designed for decision-makers, technical teams, partners, and donors, helping to plan integrated strategies, coordinate multisectoral efforts, and tailor responses to the specific needs and realities of different populations and settings.
The Best Buys can be downloaded individually or as a consolidated document. Their purpose is clear: to accelerate progress toward elimination through a person-centered, results-driven, and sustainable approach.
