Be he@lthy, be mobile: a handbook on how to implement mobile health for physical activity

Overview

The development of mActive is a response to the Global action plan on physical activity 2018–2030, and particularly the policy recommendation 4.2 on the development and scaling of innovative digital approaches to promoting physical activity. This handbook provides a step-by-step guide to countries in utilizing mobile health technologies to increase physical activity through walking and is accompanied by content library (available on request) for a 4-6 week behaviour change programme “called mActive programme”.

This handbook is intended to provide guidance for implementers on how to get started, select appropriate mobile technologies, and tailor and implement to achieve success at scale in increasing levels of physical activity and promoting health and wellbeing.  The mActive programme was designed as a population-based programme and is suitable for adults and older adults of all abilities as well as adults living with chronic diseases i.e., hypertension, type 2 diabetes. It can be adapted for all countries and communities and used in combination with other policy and programmes to support and enable more people to be more active more often.
