COVID-19: Back to school guidance

When it comes to school reopening, PAHO recommends a phased approach that takes into consideration the level of community transmission in the area where the schools are located and where students and staff live. These levels can change rapidly so surveillance is key to ensuring that reopening is done safely and that learning environments remain safe.

Prior to reopening, countries must ensure that schools can maintain COVID-19 prevention and control measures, such as social distancing, hand hygiene practices and mask wearing. Safe and accessible transportation to and from schools is also an important consideration.
