Delivering health gains across the Americas through resilience and innovation

Preface

1. This Annual Report of the Director presents the progress achieved by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO or the Organization) and its Member States from July 2025 through June 2026 —a period marked by financial constraints and increasingly complex public health needs, challenges, and emergencies. Across the Region of the Americas, countries faced growing pressure on their health systems while responding to disease outbreaks, natural and climate-related disasters, the continuing burden of communicable and noncommunicable diseases, and lingering challenges in access to health and health services.

2. The principal achievements and results that demonstrate the impact of the collaboration between PAHO and its Member States are highlighted in this report. While not exhaustive, the report reflects the progress made in advancing public health and ensuring continued access to priority health services across the Region despite a complex and evolving context.

3. The report showcases advances across PAHO’s flagship initiatives: the Alliance for Primary Health Care in the Americas, Better Care for Noncommunicable Diseases, the Disease Elimination Initiative, the Digital Transformation of the Health Sector, Zero Preventable Maternal Deaths, and the Regional Platform for Innovation and Production. The portfolio of PAHO’s Regional Revolving Funds was expanded, broadening countries’ access to vaccines, medicines, and other health technologies. Throughout the year, PAHO and Member States also advanced health and well-being in the Region by strengthening emergency preparedness and response, recovering immunization coverage, addressing the mental health crisis, and building resilient health systems.

4. Prepared for PAHO’s Governing Bodies and Member States, this report offers a transparent and balanced account of the Organization’s work in a complex regional and global environment. It aims to inform priorities, strengthen partnerships, and support the collective action needed to protect and improve health across the Region in the years ahead.
