Regional Situation Report #1: El Niño Phenomenon in the Americas Region. 14 September 2026

Download	This first PAHO/WHO Situation Report provides a regional overview of the current and potential impacts of the 2026–2027 El Niño phenomenon on public health in the Americas. With a probability of more than 90% that the event will reach “very strong” intensity, the report analyzes the main associated threats, including drought, food insecurity, flooding, wildfires, and the increased risk of vector-borne diseases. The document highlights the most critical situations in Central America, the Andean Region, Brazil, and the Caribbean, identifies the countries experiencing the greatest levels of impact, and describes the preparedness and response actions being implemented by national authorities and PAHO/WHO to protect health and strengthen the resilience of health services.
