Situation Report #10: Measles in the Americas Region. 1 September 2026

Between epidemiological week (EW) 1 and EW 33 of 2026 (which ended on August 22, 2026), the Region of the Americas reported 51,027 confirmed cases of measles in 17 countries and territories, representing a 4.6-fold increase compared with the same period in 2025. Guatemala (32,566), Mexico (12,607), the United States (2,777), and Canada (1,117) account for the vast majority (96%) of confirmed cases (Map 1). A total of 55 deaths have been reported, including 36 in Guatemala, 18 in Mexico, and one in Bolivia. 

During EW 31 and 32 of 2026, the Region of the Americas reported 1,162 new confirmed cases of measles in seven countries and territories, representing a 28.1% decrease compared with the previous two-week period (EW 29–30; 1616 new cases, of which 921 were retrospectively accounted for since the last situation report was published) (Figure 1). Of the 1,162 new confirmed cases reported during EW 31–32, Guatemala accounted for 611, followed by the United States with 239, Peru with 211, and Mexico with 96 while Bolivia reported three cases and Canada and Honduras one each.
